V. van Dijk before the semi-final with "Barca": "It won't be a battle between me and Messi"

Virgil van Dijk and the "Liverpool" team will soon face the biggest challenge of this season - the "Reds" meet "Barcelona" in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

With two more weeks to go before the match, social media is already buzzing about the showdown between the best defender and the best attacking player - Virgil van Dijk against Lionel Messi. Both players are at the peak of their form this season.

After the victory in Portugal, V. van Dijk mentioned that they are expecting very tough matches, and L. Messi also had words of praise for him.

"It will be a great match for both teams," the Dutchman said in an interview with "Viasport Football". "Everything in these matches will come down to team work, not one-on-one play. It won't be a battle where I play against a certain attacker."

"The only way we can successfully defend is through the work of the entire team. We know that we are facing very tough matches and that 'Barcelona' has the best player on the planet. We'll see how it all unfolds," added V. van Dijk.

The first match between "Barcelona" and "Liverpool" will take place at the "Camp Nou" stadium on May 1st.
