After triumphing in the Champions League final, Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk remains a strong candidate to win the Ballon d'Or award.
Speaking after the decisive tournament matches, the Dutchman praised Barcelona's forward.
"I think Lionel Messi is the best player in the world and he should win the Ballon d'Or.
So, I don't really think about this award. Of course, if I were to win it, I would take this prize. However, L. Messi deserves it - he is the best, whether he played in the final or not," said V. Van Dijk, speaking about Liverpool's future.
"We should remain hungry and after the final, our performance this season is over.
In July, everything will start from scratch, and as we have seen this year, we still have room for improvement.
Again, we will have to fight against Man City, as that team is not going anywhere. We are ambitious and want to repeat these nights several times a year," mentioned the Dutchman.
