VAR in Africa will start after the New Year

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the upcoming Nations Cup tournament on the continent will already be using Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.

The tournament, which is held every two years in four cities in Morocco, will take place between January 13 and February 4. The matches will be played in Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier, and Agadir.

The decision to test VAR was made by the CAF Referees Committee on Monday at a meeting in Egypt. This technology will be used in all matches starting from the Nations Cup quarterfinals.

The Confederation has also prepared a list of African referees who will officiate at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and other referees who have already completed VAR training.
