The Mexican national team did almost everything that depended on them to reach the World Cup quarter-finals.
In Group C, the Latin American team defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0, but fell short of advancing to the knockout stage.
In the first half, Mexico was more active in attack, but failed to score a goal.
At the end of the half, Saudi Arabia had a chance to score, but missed the goal.
In the 47th minute, the Mexicans achieved their goal - after a corner, H. Martin scored the first goal of the match (1-0).
In the 53rd minute, L. Chavezas scored one of the most beautiful goals of the tournament - he beautifully converted a penalty kick (2-0).
Mexico tried hard to score a third goal and it seemed that they succeeded, but in the 87th minute, the ball that hit the net did not bring much joy - it was ruled offside.
Finally, in the 96th minute, Saudi Arabia's player S. Al Dawsari scored a consolation goal and erased Mexico's chances of reaching the quarter-finals - 1-2.
