The ranks of South American players in the "Villarreal" team of the Spanish championship were complemented by another newcomer - the club introduced their new purchase, the young Chilean national team striker Matias Fernandez, who was acquired from the "Colo Colo" club for 8.7 million euros.
"I am happy to be here, and I did not expect such a reception. I am proud of these moments, as I have always dreamed of playing in such a league, and now it will come true," said M. Fernandez at a press conference after the presentation, attended by 3,500 "Villarreal" fans.
The 20-year-old footballer, born in Argentina, is considered one of the most promising players on the continent and has already represented the Chilean national team five times and scored two goals.
In his team, "Colo Colo," the striker stood out in 63 matches, scoring 33 times, including nine goals in the second most prestigious South American "Copa Sudamericana" Cup matches, where he reached the final with his teammates.
The Chilean will officially become a member of "Villarreal" on New Year's Day when the player transfer market opens, replacing the Turk Nihat in the attack, who suffered a serious muscle injury in November and will miss the rest of the season because of it.
