With great ambitions for the upcoming season, Vilnius "Žalgiris" did not hide and signed a two-year contract with former Edinburgh striker Calum Elliot. The 24-year-old footballer will arrive in the Lithuanian capital in the near future to finalize the deal.

"Everything is already settled," the "Žalgiris" newcomer told the "Scotsman." "I am very happy because this is an important step in my career. The longer you are without a club, the more you worry.

"Of course, it can be said that I am stepping into the unknown, so I feel a little frightened. However, I talked to "Hearts" defender Marius Žaliūkas, who said that Vilnius is a great place to live. This greatly helped me make a decision."

"We set the highest goals for the team, so we need high-level attacking footballers. Upon learning that Calum Elliot became a free agent, we did not wait long and invited him to our team," said Mindaugas Nikoličius, sports director of VMFD "Žalgiris."

At the end of last year, Elliot was loaned to the "Dundee" team, and since January 1, he has been a free agent as the contract with the financially troubled "Hearts" club was terminated.

He also had the opportunity to go to the United States for a trial at Houston Dynamo, but he turned down the offer in favor of Lithuania.

The striker began his career in 2004 with the "Hearts" team, where he played a total of 110 matches and scored thirteen goals. During this time, he was loaned out to "Motherwell" (15 matches, 2 goals), "Livingston" (13 matches, 11 goals), and the aforementioned "Dundee" team. In the latter, he failed to score in six matches in the Scottish Premier League.

Elliot also played 10 matches for the Scottish youth (under 20 and under 21) national teams, but did not score any goals.
