The most productive football player of all time in the England national team, Wayne Rooney, announced today that we will no longer see him wearing his country's jersey more often - the player has decided to end his career in the national team.
"Everton" forward was called up for the upcoming English matches in the World Cup qualifier against Malta and Slovakia, but he revealed to the team coach Gareth Southgate that he has decided to end his national team career.
"Every time I receive a call-up to the national team, I feel privileged, but I am convinced that it's time to step back," said the 31-year-old player, who has played a total of 119 matches for his country and scored 53 times.
W. Rooney made his debut for the national team back in the summer of 2003, in a match against Australia. However, recently his importance in the national team has diminished, and in June he was not even called up for the team's matches against Scotland and Spain.
