W. Rooney: I know why I lost my place in the starting lineup

"Manchester United" captain Wayne Rooney assures new team coach Jose Mourinho that he has no complaints and intends to fight for his place in the starting lineup.

He had to sit on the bench after the "Red Devils" lost 3-1 to "Watford" club.

The Englishman did not appear from the first minutes in the "Premier" League matches against "Leicester City" and "Stoke City" as well as in the UEFA Europa League match against Luhansk's "Zorya".

"Listen, the match against "Watford" was bad. I played poorly, I know and understand that", - Rooney told The Independent.

"I think if he (Jose Mourinho - ed. note) chooses the team based on that, then I understand why I wouldn't play. Since then, the team has looked good, especially against "Leicester".

"I understand that I have to work hard and try to earn my place in the team, wait for my chance and try to take advantage of it."

Rooney started the season with one goal and two assists in seven English championship matches.
