"Manchester United" sniper Wayne Rooney is looking optimistically towards the upcoming European Championship and believes that his country's team can defeat any opponent.
England has not crossed the quarterfinal barrier of the Old Continent Championships since 1996, when they hosted the tournament.
However, the all-time top scorer of the national team believes that this year the English are incredibly capable.
"I feel that we have a very good team. Perhaps for the first time, I feel that we can match any team," Rooney told Sky Sports.
"Of course, being capable is one thing, and demonstrating it consistently throughout the tournament is a whole different story."
"Our forward players can compete anywhere. Myself, Jamie Vardy, Raheem Sterling, and Daniel Sturridge can play on the edge. It is always difficult for their opponents."
"You never know how well our players can perform. We had a good qualifying campaign, but we must not get complacent, keep moving forward, and give ourselves every possible opportunity."
"Another good thing is that Roy Hodgson can consider the opponents and choose such a safe lineup that is most suitable for them to win. We have never really had that before. If needed, he could now change the entire eleven, and we would still have a chance to win."
England will compete in Group B of the championship against Russia, Wales, and Slovakia.
