„Manchester United“ captain and English national team captain Wayne Rooney is convinced that his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed Lionel Messi and will receive the „Ballon d'Or“ award for the best football player in the world.
„That's my opinion. In the last two or three years, he has been playing incredibly and definitely outperformed L. Messi, so he can be called the best in the world. I am convinced that it would be difficult not to award this prize to C. Ronaldo“, Rooney said on MUTV.
This year, C. Ronaldo has already scored 20 goals in 13 Spanish championship and UEFA Champions League matches.
The 29-year-old Portuguese player won the „Ballon d'Or“ award for the first time in 2008, but then Messi triumphed four times in a row in the elections. In 2013, the „Golden Ball“ was once again in C. Ronaldo's hands.
The winner of the 2014 award will be announced on January 12th next year in Zurich."
