About the end of the career, another Dutch football legend announced - Wesley Sneijder also bids farewell to football.
The 35-year-old footballer, finishing the season in Qatar, while visiting his hometown of Utrecht, announced that he will no longer step on the field. Throughout his professional career, he managed to play more than 700 matches.
"My connection with this town is strong," Sneijder said at the "Utrecht" team's stadium. "After retiring from football, I want to share great memories in this beautiful place."
Sneijder began his career in 2002 when he put on the jersey of Amsterdam's "Ajax." Spending five years in the "Ajax" team, the Dutchman played 180 matches and scored 58 goals.
Later, his career turned towards Madrid's "Real" club, but after two years, he moved to Milano's "Inter," where he left a significant mark - scoring 22 goals in 116 matches and becoming a UEFA Champions League winner.
From "Inter," Sneijder moved to Istanbul's "Galatasaray," later relocating to "Nice" for half a year and eventually finishing at the "Al-Gharafa" club.
In the Netherlands national team, with which he reached the World Cup final in 2010, he played 134 matches and scored 31 goals.
This summer, Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie also ended their careers.
