W. Sneijder: "I could have become a player on the level of Messi and Ronaldo"

uring the summer, hanging up his football boots on the vine, Wesley Sneijder has no regrets about anything in his career, although he admits that if he had put in more effort, he could have been mentioned alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

W. Sneijder, who has worn the jerseys of Madrid's "Real" and Milan's "Inter" during his career, played the best football of his career in 2010 when he won the treble with "Inter" and reached the final of the World Cup with the Netherlands national team.

"I have to be honest and admit that I could have been mentioned in the same sentence as Messi and Ronaldo if I had dedicated myself fully 100% to my profession," the Dutch legend said while speaking to "Fox Sports."

"However, I didn't want to do that myself and I don't regret it at all. I had all the opportunities to become one of the best in the world, but I simply didn't want to strive for it.

"I enjoyed my career both on and off the pitch. I won all possible club trophies, so I have nothing to regret. I was always a team player and I enjoyed being a part of a successful team.

"People still talk about how I should have won the 'Golden Ball' in 2010, but I tell them that winning the Champions League was much nicer than receiving any individual award.

"Of course, that could have been the cherry on top of the cake, but I am satisfied enough that people understand that I deserved this award," said W. Sneijder.
