Having left Milan's "Inter" and moved to Istanbul's "Galatasaray", midfielder Wesley Sneijder admitted that he is no longer as good a footballer as he used to be.
The Dutch national team member was unstoppable during the 2009/10 season. He helped his former club win the UEFA Champions League trophy and led his country to the final of the 2010 World Cup.
"Why didn't I join a club that is among the world's top five? That's because at the moment, I am definitely not in the top five best footballers," Sneijder told De Telegraaf.
"I don't think moving to Turkey is a step back. In the 'Galatasaray' team, I will get more playing time on the field," added the 28-year-old Dutchman.
Sneijder could make his debut in Turkey's top champion team as soon as Sunday, when "Galatasaray" will face off against "Besiktas" in the Istanbul derby.
