Waiting for the World Championship: USA National Team © AFP

On November 20, the 22nd World Football Championship begins. The sport event, which will take place almost until Christmas, will bring together fans of various national teams from around the world to support their teams.

The most visited football portal in the country "Eurofootball.com" will provide reviews of the World Cup national teams, aiming to get to know each participating team better.

This time we review the USA national team, which will compete in Group B.

Team history and achievements

This will be the USA national team's twelfth World Football Championship, debuting in 1930 when they managed to reach the semifinals.

The North American representatives participated in the World Championships of 1934 and 1950, then had to wait 40 years until 1990 when they returned to the World Cup.

The United States are multiple-time "Gold Cup" champions. The team has participated in this championship 16 times and won 7 titles, most recently in 2021.

After an 8-year hiatus, the USA national team is returning to the World Cup and has already secured a spot in the 2026 championship, as the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be the hosts of that tournament.

Team coach

The USA national team is coached by Gregg Berhalter. The 49-year-old American began his coaching career in 2011 as an assistant for Los Angeles Galaxy.

From 2013-2018, G. Berhalter worked with the Columbus Crew team.

Since 2018, the coach has taken over as the coach of the USA national team.

In 2021, Berhalter led the USA national team to victory in the Gold Cup championship.

The 49-year-old coach has overseen 56 matches as head coach of the USA national team. In those matches, there were 36 wins, 10 draws, and 10 losses.

Group stage opponents

In Group B, the USA national team will face England, Wales, and Iran.

The USA has played against the England national team five times in history and secured one victory. However, this victory came 72 years ago in 1950 with a score of 1-0.

The two teams last met in 2018, with England winning 3-0 in a friendly match.

The Americans have faced Wales in two matches. In 2003, they achieved a 2-0 victory, while in 2020, the teams ended the match goalless.

The USA played against Iran in the 1998 World Cup and had to acknowledge the opponents' superiority (1-2).

Summary

The USA national team has many young, talented footballers who will be interesting to watch. Clearly, Wales will be the main rival in the group. The teams will meet in the first round, and the winning team will be one step closer to the knockout stage.
