On Friday evening, the last nine matches of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers were played in the Old Continent.
In Group D, the Welsh national team won an important victory in the battle for qualification for next year's World Cup. Chris Coleman's team defeated Georgia by a narrow margin and reduced the gap with the top-ranked Serbians to just one point.
In Group G, Spain's footballers took care of business early on against Albania. Goals from Rodrigo, Isco, and Thiago secured the victory, ensuring Spain's direct qualification to the World Cup.
In the same group, the Italian national team failed to beat the Macedonian footballers. Giorgio Chiellini had put Italy ahead in the 40th minute, but the Macedonians scored an equalizer in the 77th minute.
In Group I, Croatia let slip a victory against Finland in the last moments of the game, despite already securing the top spot. However, after the draw, they were overtaken by Iceland, who defeated Turkey.
