The German team traveled to Milan without seven injured players. It was already clear that defenders Naldo, Petri Pasanen, Per Mertesacker, and Sebastian Boenisch would not be able to help the team.
However, forward Claudio Pizarro, another defender Clemens Fritz, and midfielder Torsten Frings also joined the injured list.
