"Werder Bremen" team midfielder Per Mertesacker will most likely not be able to help the team for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury in Sunday's match against "Nurnberg".
According to the "Werder" club, the Germany national team defender is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday, and it will take three or four weeks for him to recover.
"His absence is very difficult for us," said "Werder" sporting director Klaus Allofs to journalists.
With six games left to play in the league, the "Werder" team currently holds second place in the Bundesliga, trailing leader "Schalke" club by just two points.
Furthermore, Bremen's team will also face Alkmaar's "AZ" in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals on Thursday.
