Vilnius' "Žalgiris" yesterday fought hard for a crucial point (2:2) at the "Basel" fortress.
Vladimir Čeburin's players preserved all chances to enter the Conference League playoffs. Furthermore, in another stadium, "Slovan" also played favorably for the Lithuanian champions against "Pyunik."
The Bratislava team defeated the visitors from Yerevan 2:1 and created maximum intrigue in Group H. Now the residents of Vilnius have two scenarios to get to the Conference League playoffs before the last round.
Vilnius' "Žalgiris" will enter the Conference League playoffs if:
- Before the match against "Slovan" they win by a margin of less than two goals, and "Pyunik" does not beat "Basel"
- Before the match against "Slovan" they win by a margin of two goals or more
A draw is an inappropriate result for the Lithuanian champions. The point would not help to rise from the bottom of the Group H table.
"Žalgiris" also has no chance of taking first place in the group and qualifying directly for the quarter-finals.
