Why does the referee always show a yellow card when the player pulls down his shorts? © zumapress

Football fans watching the matches often wonder why a player scores a goal and then, in the midst of joy, takes off his jersey, the referee always promptly pulls out a yellow card.

As explained by "Sportbible", the referee has no other choice, as such a strict punishment is specified in the football rules.

The referee must react to the player's actions, if celebrating a successful strike includes provocative, annoying actions, climbing the stadium barriers, taking off the jersey or the footballer trying to cover his head with a mask or similar object.

According to former German referees chief Volker Roth, religions are also taken into account.

"In Islamic countries, it is considered offensive, because a person involuntarily must witness such a sight."

Furthermore, according to experts, this is a way to protect against athletes' cunning, for example, drawing a sponsor's logo or slogan on a naked body. It is said that later, when the footballer tries to fix the clothing failure, the match is paused.
