Captain Matt Jackson rejected the club's offer of a new one-year contract and accepted an offer from a team that dropped out of the Premier League.
The 35-year-old defender arrived at Wigan in 2001 from Norwich, played 191 matches here, 84 of which he captained. Over 4 years, M. Jackson helped Wigan move up from the third division to the Premier League, from which the team narrowly avoided relegation this year.
About acquiring this experienced footballer, Watford coach Adie Boothroyd said: "Matt brings a sense of coolness to our game and can control the team during matches."
Bidding farewell to Wigan, the captain stated: "This club will always hold a special place in my heart, as we experienced great moments together. I believe Wigan will bounce back, and the new manager Chris Hutchings will lead the team to a higher level next season."
