In the last moments of securing a place in the English Premier League, the club is experiencing changes in coaches. Just a few hours after leaving the position of head coach, Paul Jewell, the president of Wigan, Dave Whelan, found a replacement. From now on, the team will be led by Chris Hutchings.
P. Jewell decided to take a break from football after leaving Wigan, and his long-time assistant at both Bradford and Wigan, C. Hutchings, took over the team.
"He is a very capable coach, and for many years Chris has been Paul's right-hand man," said club president D. Whelan. "We asked him to lead the team from now on, and he immediately agreed."
"I did not work with him in the Bradford team, but I and the club management have full confidence in him, and I will make sure to provide him with financial support," added D. Whelan. "I know Chris Hutchings and I know how well he can perform. I believe that under his leadership, Wigan will go far."
"Some players will leave our squad, but a couple will arrive. The season was very poor - we did not have enough luck and made bad decisions, which led to Paul Jewell stepping down from the position of head coach," said Whelan.
The new 49-year-old Wigan strategist, C. Hutchings, was P. Jewell's assistant when he managed to keep the Bradford team in the top league in the 1999-2000 season.
"I would like to thank my assistant, Chris Hutchings, for remaining loyal and working hard with me for many years. I wish such a colleague to everyone," said former Wigan coach P. Jewell in a statement, thanking C. Hutchings for helping the team stay in the English championship this year and in the years to come.
