The Lithuanian Football Federation informed on Thursday that in the next season of the A lyga championship, Šiauliai and Kėdainiai's Nevėžis should compete in the league, and relegation matches will not be played.
This means that most likely the two latter teams will join the current eight participants, making a total of ten teams in the championship.
According to the 2004 LFF and NFKA competition regulations, two clubs - Šiauliai, winners of the I lyga, and Nevėžis, who finished in third place, will enter the A lyga after receiving licenses.
Although the second position in the I lyga was taken by Kauno Jėgeriai, they cannot compete in the top league as they are the reserve team of Lithuania's champion FBK Kaunas.
