Will we still see football this season?

Coronavirus unexpectedly stopped sports events. Many of them did not happen only during the war, and the main football championships are no exception. It is already clear that this summer the European Football Championship and "Copa America" will definitely not take place. However, the transfer of these tournaments to 2021 ignited hope that clubs will be able to finish the 2020 season. Perhaps sports fans will soon be able to play not only e-sports, online casinos, or board games, but also enjoy top-class football?

UEFA Champions League talks about the end of summer. The UEFA Champions League tournament was paused in the middle of the quarter-finals stage. Some teams managed to play the return matches of the first knockout stage, while others did not. For example, the defending champion "Liverpool" before the start of quarantine at home after extra time did not match Madrid's "Atletico", while "Barcelona" did not play the second leg match against "Napoli". So, the tournament is not yet finished for twelve teams.

Now the organizers of the Champions League are considering various scenarios, but the intention is still to finish the championship. One of the most realistic options is that in August in Istanbul a final eight tournament will be held. In this tournament, clubs would play without two-legged ties.

The major national championships send different signals. "Liverpool" could have won the title for the first time since the 1990s and it practically seemed to be within reach. Given their impressive season, Jurgen Klopp's players would probably have even improved the points record, so this team is certainly interested in extending the English Premier League season.

There are leagues that have already clearly stated that the football season will not be extended. The Belgians were the first to do so. They informed that the club announced as champions, "St. Liege", and despite receiving threats of sanctions from UEFA, they announced that they will definitely not continue the championship. Recently, their neighbor the Netherlands also joined the Belgians. They also decided not to wait and declared the end of the season.

Elite leagues are dealing with their dilemmas, meanwhile the Belarusian football league enjoys unprecedented global attention. The country's president, Alexander Lukashenko, completely downplays the threat of the virus, and football championships here are proceeding as usual.

For this reason, the league's matches are being watched by football fans from many countries. However, there are increasing talks that soon this championship will also be stopped and fans will no longer go to the stadiums.
