Women's A League review: as "Gintra" prepares for the Champions League © fkgintra.lt

Over the weekend, two matches of the Lithuanian Women's Football A League were played, after which the players of the capital's "Žalgiris"-MRU team settled on the first step, defeating guests from the Kaunas region. It is worth mentioning that a week ago, Vytautas Lukša's students also confidently dealt with Joniškio's "Saned" team.

Last week. The matches between Žalgiris and Joniškis were ones where the question of "who" did not exist, it was a matter of "how much". From the very beginning of the meeting, the Žalgiris players attacked the opponents' goal, and in the 15th minute, Žemyna Lekavičiūtė "unlocked" it.

One side entertained with goals, while the others watched the first side celebrate. Leading by four goals at halftime, the representatives of Vilnius not only did not stop but consistently increased the margin. The interval between the 77th and 88th minutes can be highlighted, during which the lead grew from 7:1 to 12:1.

America's Mia Leneice Darden was the most productive player in these matches, scoring a hat-trick.

A Dominant Žemyna. The Hegelmann players, in good athletic form, traveled to the capital to fight for 3 points. However, as the match showed, they had little chance of doing so - some spectators could realize this even in the first minutes of the match.

Exactly, within not even 60 seconds, MFA "Žalgiris"-MRU created the first serious threat, when the ball initially tested the goal structure, and then goalkeeper Gina Mankutė had to demonstrate her skill.

Just a minute later, the first goal was scored. From the left, Anna Dallakyan sent the ball towards Z. Lekavičiūtė, who calmly put the ball into the net with one touch.

The Hegelmann spirit did not falter. The girls from Kaunas created several opportunities to equalize, but the Žalgiris players stood firm. And then, once again, Z. Lekavičiūtė put in the effort to diminish the opponents' enthusiasm to the fullest - with an impressive strike (possibly even the most beautiful of her career) she doubled the lead with a shot into the distant corner. After the break, within the penalty area chaos, the Žalgiris players scored the third goal, and at that moment the opponents gave up for good.

Near a Sensation. With fifteen minutes left until the end of the match between "Utenos Utenis" and "Banga", the score was still level, but Atėnė Streckytė and Monika Grikšaitė did everything to keep the "Tigers" in the fight for bronze, leaving the Utena team with just one point, earned in the spring.

The team from Utena suffers from missed chances, and this fact was once again confirmed in this match. Paulina Narbutaitė took a risk by shooting from about 30 meters away, and the ball found the back of the net. We can be sure that the coaches of "Utenos Utenis" do not want to remember how many similar goals have been conceded this season.

Although the girls from Gargždai had the advantage throughout the match, scoring a second time was very difficult for them. It was not easy for the Utenos Utenis players either, but they did it in the 73rd minute. After a corner and three attempts (the last belonging to Karolina Jasaitytė), the ball found the net.

Unfortunately for the hosts, the lead only lasted for two minutes, as a corner was awarded to their goal, and after playing the ball in, A. Streckytė "overcame" the goalkeeper and put her team ahead. Another point was added ten minutes later.
