Germany's national team captain Philipp Lahm will no longer hold these duties. The 30-year-old footballer officially announced that he is ending his career in the national team.
Munich's "Bayern" player announced his final decision today. The German, who triumphed in the 2014 World Cup, decided to leave the team gracefully.
"I already told Joachim Low about my decision on Monday," Lahm told the newspaper "Bild". "I had been thinking about it for the past season."
"I am very happy that I was able to become a world champion before ending my career. This morning, I called the president of the German Football Federation and thanked him and everyone else for the wonderful times in the national team," said the versatile German.
Lahm made his debut in the Germany national team in 2004. The World Cup trophy was the first for the footballer in the national team, where he scored five goals in 113 games played.
