W.Ronney elected as captain of the England national team

The opponent of the Lithuanian national football team in the qualifiers for the 2016 European Championship, England, chose a new captain. After the World Cup, in a team undergoing changes, the role of captain will be taken on by forward Wayne Rooney. English coach Roy Hodgson confirmed that the national team players themselves chose their captain.

W. Rooney was given a symbolic prestigious role. The 28-year-old Manchester United player replaced Steven Gerrard, who ended his international career.

"He truly deserves it. It was his dedication that led to this. Wayne is ready to handle the pressure that comes with these responsibilities," said R. Hodgson.

On September 8, his team will play their first qualifying match against the Swiss.

Defenders Calum Chambers and Danny Rose, as well as midfielders Jack Colback and Fabian Delph, were called up to the England national team for the first time.
