Wayne Rooney, a striker who returned to the Liverpool team "Everton", could choose a different career path.
The 31-year-old Englishman was tempted by wealthy Chinese teams willing to pay astronomical wages.
However, the player stayed in England and told the press about his motives:
"As everyone knows, I adore playing for the England national team. The team's coach Gareth Southgate in the past had to make a decision like Jose Mourinho, but I had to talk to him about it.
I didn't play the best football of my career and I don't think it was the right time to represent the national team, especially if you don't get the chance to show yourself in your club.
I completely agreed with Gareth's decision. He told me that if I play every week, the door will always be open for me.
I wanted to play in England - if I had chosen the Chinese offer, then I don't think I would have returned to the national team."
