Swiss record-holder Xherdan Shaqiri has retired from the national team.

X. Shaqiri, closely associated with major championships, announced his decision after the European Championship.

Scoring another goal in this European Championship, the Swiss became the first player to score in three major championships in a row.

The 32-year-old striker currently plays for Chicago Fire in the MLS, representing the team in the United States.

X. Shaqiri has played 125 matches for the Swiss national team, scoring 32 goals.

Earlier, Jan Vertonghen and Thomas Muller also announced their retirement from national teams.
