“Barcelona” club head coach Xavi decided to stay with this team and explained his motives at a press conference:
“I am a Barcelonista and I believe this is not the end of this project.
Rumors that I decided to stay here just to receive money for the last year of my contract are completely wrong... They were invented to harm me and my reputation.
President Joan Laporta knows that if I had left the 'Barca' team, I wouldn't have asked for a single euro for the last year of my contract. Money has never been the essential thing for me.
I decided to stay in the Catalan team because I felt the trust from J. Laporta, other club leaders, and, of course, from the players themselves. I believe this is not the end of this project.
I, my coaching staff, all feel that together we can do serious things to believe in this project.”
