Xavi rejected offers from "Bayern" and "Manchester United" in the summer © JumpStory

"Barcelona" defender Xavi, who, according to the media, wanted to leave the team in the summer, found himself not only in the sights of wealthy clubs in the USA and Qatar, but also received offers from two strong European teams. About this, based on its sources, writes the Catalan newspaper "El Mundo Deportivo". According to the publication, after an unsuccessful 2013-2014 season, the defender seriously considered the possibility of leaving his native "Barcelona" club, and he was offered solid contracts by the newly formed daughter club of "Manchester City" starting its activities in the USA "New York City" and one of the teams controlled by the Emir of Qatar "Lekhwiya SC". Despite the lack of ambition, the "New York City" leaders have already managed to attract David Villa and Frank Lampard to their team, and the Qatari team, coached by Michael Laudrup, promised the defender a very generous salary - 12 million euros per year. However, "El Mundo Deportivo" found out that two old European clubs with long traditions also joined the fight for Xavi's signature. The new manager of "Manchester United" Louis van Gaal personally called Xavi and tried to convince him to come to England, but the Catalan was not tempted by such an offer. Xavi also reportedly wanted to join his former Barcelona teammate and current Bayern Munich strategist Josep Guardiola in his coaching team. However, the defender was not impressed by the prospect of facing "Barcelona" in the Champions League already in the first season and he decided not to go anywhere after talking to the coach of the Catalan club Luis Enrique. It is claimed that Xavi considered the possibility of playing in Qatar or the USA much more seriously than the offers from "Manchester United" and "Bayern". According to the aforementioned Catalan newspaper, Xavi simply did not want to strengthen a team that would be a direct competitor to "Barcelona" in any level of official competition."
