„Porto“ star Yacine‘as Brahimi recognized as the best African footballer of 2014.
The goalkeeper, chosen from 207 FIFA registered countries, led the Algerian national team to the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in history this summer.
In the BBC organized elections, Brahimi surpassed Nigeria's goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Ivory Coast's duo Gervinho and Yaya Toure. The latter was chosen as the most powerful African last year.
„It is a huge honor for me to receive this award“ - Brahimi told the official „Porto“ website.
„I want to dedicate it to Algeria and all African countries. 2014 was great for me and now I will try even harder to improve and win trophies with the club“.
The goalkeeper started his career at „Granada“ and was acquired by the Portuguese club for 6.5 million euros in the summer.
Since arriving at „Porto“, the 24-year-old footballer has scored in 15 matches, including a hat-trick in a UEFA Champions League match against BATE Borisov.
Prior to Brahimi, no Algerian player had received such recognition.
