Yanalis appointed as the new coach of Turkey © EuroFootball.com

Yesterday it was announced that the new head coach of the Turkish national team is coach Ersun Yanal. He signed a four-year contract with the Turkish Football Federation.

Negotiations between the federation and the coach, who led "Genclerbirligi" to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup where the Turkish club lost to the team, have been ongoing for several days.

Yanal will replace Senol Gunes as the head coach, who was fired last month after Turkey failed to qualify for this year's European Championship in Portugal following a loss to Latvia. Under Gunes' leadership in 2002, Turkey finished in third place at the World Cup.

The Turkish Football Federation still needs to reach an agreement with the management of "Genclerbirligi" regarding compensation for the terminated coach's contract.
