"Man City" defender Yaya Toure has decided to no longer represent his national team.
He publicly announced this on Tuesday:
"Writing these lines is the most difficult match of my life. However, after 14 years in top-level football, I think the time has come.
I am already 33 years old and this decision has been brewing in my head for a long time.
Truth be told, the reason lies not in training or the number of matches. I do not see myself in the team anymore and I can no longer set new goals. I also do not want to interfere in the established atmosphere.
It was a great honor for me to play for the Ivory Coast national team," Toure wrote.
He represented his country's team 102 times.
