Madrid's journey towards the 14th UEFA Champions League title began with a sad note - a crushing blow was dealt in the very first group match.
In an away game, the "Whites" admitted defeat with a score of 0:3 to Paris Saint-Germain, who dominated almost the entire match.
After the match, Zinedine Zidane stated that he did not expect any other result when he saw that the team showed no desire to play.
"PSG outclassed us in almost every aspect of the game," admitted the Frenchman. "What saddens me the most is our lack of intensity at this stage of the tournament. Usually, we create quite a few chances in attack, but today there simply weren't any."
"Intensity is the most important thing on the field. You can have bad days, but if you show even a little desire, win aerial duels and move your feet a bit, then you will definitely pose a challenge to the opponent. Today, we saw a completely different picture," Zidane expressed his disappointment.
Asked about PSG's goals, Zidane had no doubt that Thibaut Courtois was not the main problem - the entire team did not do their job.
"We are all in the same boat - we win together, we lose together. We never blame individual players. I was not satisfied with the overall picture on the field. It was a rather strange feeling. There was no moment during the match where I thought we could win," added the coach.
Real Madrid's team faces another test this weekend - a match away with Sevilla, who have almost not dropped points this season so far.
