The head coach of Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, admits that Karim Benzema needs to improve his goal scoring statistics, but that does not affect his position as the team's forward.
The 30-year-old Frenchman is experiencing another goal drought this season - he has only scored nine goals in 38 matches, although he is the team's second highest in assists (11).
There has been discussion about the future of K. Benzema for some time now, but the striker is not too worried about it - he doesn't have much competition in his position, as the club's youth product Borja Mayoral only plays a minor role.
"Benzema needs to score goals and he knows it perfectly. He is a bit frustrated and unhappy when he fails to score," the coach said.
"The best solution in this situation is to continue working. However, we all know that even without goals, Karim is a very important player. Gareth is also going through a phase where he struggles to score more goals, but both of them are very important for our team," Zidane added.
