Zinedine Zidane felt sorry for Ernesto Valverde, who recently lost his job at Barcelona club.
Both coaches received a fair amount of criticism this season, but Zidane climbed out of his hole, while Valverde was dismissed after the Spanish Super Cup fiasco.
"I regret what happened," the Frenchman said about Valverde.
"He is an excellent coach who has proven it with his work. I have great respect for him. When coaching clubs like Real and Barcelona, we understand the situation and know that it will never change.
If you lose a few matches, people criticize you, as it happened to me a few months ago. The only way out is to be fully committed to your work."
"Once again, I regret Valverde," added Zidane.
