The head coach of Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, mentioned during a press conference about the rising French star Kylian Mbappe and pointed out that a few years ago the "white" team had the opportunity to sign a contract with the striker.
The impressive 18-year-old Frenchman, demonstrating amazing athletic form, revealed that in December 2013 he had met with Z. Zidane to discuss a possible move to the Spanish capital, but the striker decided to stay in France and join the Monaco academy.
This season, K. Mbappe has already scored 17 goals in 31 matches. Considering the current market, Monaco expects to receive offers of 70 million euros or more for the footballer this summer. According to the media, Real Madrid remains among the candidates to acquire the Frenchman.
"He was almost signed by Real Madrid, but then he decided to choose Monaco," said Z. Zidane.
"I can't talk about it," the coach replied when asked if Real Madrid would still seek to acquire the striker. "We know very well that he is a great footballer. What he does at such a young age is fantastic. But what interests me the most now are the matches against Athletic Bilbao."
"But I can only confirm once again that we tried to sign him once," Z. Zidane concluded.
