The long-time sports director of the "Žalgiris" football club, Mindaugas Nikoličius, moving to Croatia, certain structural changes are taking place in the club's administration. The new "Žalgiris" member Sergejus Slyva will take over some of M. Nikoličius' functions.
37-year-old S. Slyva, from June 2016 to November 2017, was the president of the Kaunas "Stumbras" football club, and previously he was known as one of the best football referees in Lithuania. In "Žalgiris" he will perform the functions of Technical Director - he will take care of the current team affairs, resolve player sales issues, and pay more attention to the activities of the "Žalgiris" football academy, integration of young players into the club system, etc.
According to the director of "Žalgiris" club, Vilma Venslovaitienė, M. Nikoličius will continue to perform strategic sports director functions.
"Mindaugas has not withdrawn from the "Žalgiris" club, he is a board member and will be responsible for the sports part of the club's activities. He will continue to monitor the player market, search for possible candidates for "Žalgiris". Player selection and negotiations, - this will be his direct area of activity. He will simply not be physically in the club, as he will spend more time in Croatia in the coming months, so S. Slyva will take over some of his daily duties. Sergejus will be given formulated and additional tasks, according to this year's club strategy and set goals," - summarized the structural changes V. Venslovaitienė.
As the "Žalgiris" football team continues preparations for the new season, last Saturday they played their first friendly match. In a training match, coached by Aurelijus Skarbalius, the main team members beat the "Žalgiris B" team players 2:1.
