On Saturday and Sunday, the first matches of the second round of the Intertoto tournament were played in Europe. The only Lithuanian club remaining in this tournament, Vilnius "Žalgiris", defeated guests from Latvia, Daugavpils "Dinaburg", at home and took a big step towards the third round.

Vilnius 2 - 0 Daugavpils "Dinaburg" 70' [1 - 0] Karolis Jasaitis 75' [2 - 0] Virmantas Lemežis 42' Edgaras Burlakovas ("Dinaburg") sent off the field

The Žalgiris team started more actively and dominated the first half, but struggled to score a goal for a long time. A few minutes before the break, "Dinaburg" player Edgaras Burlakovas handled the ball from the goal line. The footballer was shown a red card and a penalty kick of eleven meters was awarded, which Andrejus Šilo failed to convert. The goalkeeper saved the shot.

In the second half, the "green-white" advantage was even more noticeable. In the 70th minute, Karolis Jasaitis sent the ball into the net from outside the penalty area. Five minutes later, the "Dinaburg" goalkeeper Vadim Fiodorov had to pull the ball out of the net once again - confusing several defenders, Virmantas Lemežis scored. The final score of the match was 2-0.

Vilnius "Žalgiris" took a big step towards the third round of the Intertoto tournament after this victory, where they could face Greece's "Egaleo" if successful.

A significant sensation was provided by the "Vėtra" tormentors against Cluj "Ecomax". They managed to defeat the famous Athletic "Bilbao" at home with a minimal advantage, after the only goal scored by one of Vilnius' biggest tormentors, Cosmos Tilincos. Another famous Spanish club, "Deportivo," easily defeated opponents from Serbia and Montenegro.
