"Žalgiris" takes over the steering wheel from Belarusian previously associated with "Sūduva"

Vilnius „Žalgiris“ has a new head coach. The 38-year-old Belarusian Aliaksejus Baga is now at the helm of the team.

Originally from Barysaw, A. Baga played as a footballer in the BATE team, becoming the country's champion twice with them. From 2011 to 2018, he held the position of assistant coach. In the summer of 2018, he was appointed as the team's head coach and in the fall became the champion of Belarus.

A. Baga achieved the most significant victory of his coaching career in 2019. In the Europa League round of 16 match, BATE sensationally defeated the famous London club „Arsenal“ 1:0 at home.

Last season, BATE finished second in the Belarusian championship. After the contract ended, the paths of the coach and the club diverged.

Valerijus Tarasenka is also moving to Vilnius with A. Baga. The 38-year-old Belarusian will work as an assistant to A. Baga. Both coaches worked together at BATE last year, previously played together in several clubs, and coached the Belarusian youth national team.

The contract with the new coach has been signed for a year, with the possibility to extend it.

Today, A. Baga will personally watch the first control match of the year for „Žalgiris“ against „Valmiera“ in Marijampolė.
