Marius Žaliūkas finally made his choice - the defender of the Lithuanian national team will continue his career at "Leeds United" club, which plays in the second league of England. The formalities are expected to be sorted out by Friday, so the footballer's debut could happen already in this Sunday's match against "Birmingham".
The 29-year-old central defender left Edinburgh "Hearts" after last season and is currently a free agent. He trained for a while with the Scottish third division team, Glasgow "Rangers", as well as the "Leeds" rival London's "Queens Park Rangers", but a contract was not signed.
Žaliūkas spent some time in "Leeds" training sessions and left a good impression on the coaches. Club representatives watched him during the World Cup qualifier match between Lithuania and Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday, where the defender successfully stopped "Man City" star Edin Dzeko. Therefore, "Leeds" manager Brian McDermott hopes that the Lithuanian will strengthen the team's defense, which has only conceded two goals in 11 matches.
Among the 24 league teams, "Leeds" currently holds the 14th position, although they have ambitions to break into the top ten. Throughout its history, the club has won the country's top league three times, most recently in the 1991-1992 season.
