The Ghana Football Federation has confirmed that it has received Gianfranco Zola's application to take over the national team.
However, the 44-year-old Italian faces serious competitors - Humberto Coelho, Juande Ramos, Marcel Desailly, and Lucien Favre.
Ghana's footballers reached the quarterfinals in the World Cup last summer, but coach Milovan Rajevac decided not to extend his contract.
Zola was dismissed from the English Premier League club West Ham in London last May.
